Advanced, patented technology measures temperatures with a gentle stroke across the forehead.

The TemporalScanner Thermometer has been clinically tested for accuracy compared to rectal thermometers and temperature sensors inserted in the heart during course of patient treatment and accepted for use in major hospitals, making it the ideal thermometer for use with newborns, infants, children or adults.

The TemporalScanner has patented software, providing arterial heat balance. This unique process determines temperature by accurately measuring the balance between the tissues warming from arterial blood and tissues cooling (warming) caused by heat loss (gain) to the environment.

I was so pleased to be given the opportunity to try a Temporal Scanner by Parent Reviewers. We have had quite a few opportunities to test the Temporal Scanner during this flu season and we have had wonderful results. It is so quick that my little ones didn't even know we were taking their temperature. We often had to hold my youngest child still while taking her temperature under her arm, causing her even more discomfort and tears. With the Temporal Scanner this was not any issue at all.

Here's how the Temporal Scanner works:

As you gently stroke the thermometer across the forehead crossing over the temporal artery, the sensor in its probe performs two processes:

First it scans like a video camera, capturing naturally emitted infrared heat from the arterial blood supply at about 1000 “frames” per second, locking in the highest temperature it senses and;

Second, at the same time, a patented system measures the ambient temperature of the site where the temperature is being taken. The patented "arterial heat balance" (AHB) software then synthesizes the two separate readings to accurately determine and display body temperature.

As with any thermometer, taking temperatures properly is critical to obtaining accurate temperatures, so please read all instructions carefully and thoroughly before using this product.

To Buy:

You can purchase the Temporal Scanner at Wal-mart, Babies R Us, Walgreens and many other major retailers. For a complete list click here.

**I was provided a Temporal Scanner by Exergen to review for this post. The opinions provided within this post are completely my own.**

K'NEX Review

My family has been a huge fan of K'NEX building products for a long time. We were so excited when we were recently given the opportunity to review two fabulous products from the K'NEX collection.

The first product was the great 400 piece value set, which came with 400 individual building pieces, building ideas for 20 different models, and a great storage tub. My son was so excited to receive these as he is an avid builder. The K'NEX set is perfect for him with just enough difficulty to keep him interested, yet enough variability to allow his creativity to blossom. He has literally played with these for hours on end, creating vehicles, building, animals, insects, Christmas presents, and many, many more fun and imaginative creations.

It is so valuable for us to find toys that work well for him, with his multiple special needs it is often to find things that will keep his attention, not be frustrating, and allow him to be as creative as he wants to be. This set fit all of those and more.

About the K'NEX 400 piece set:

Loaded with 400 parts, including bricks, for lots of open-ended fun and endless building and play opportunities! Deputy Benjamin Patil is the one to find the infant girl, hours old, abandoned in a field. As police work to identify the mother, Ben and his wife, Abbi, seem like the obvious couple to serve as foster parents. But the newborn's arrival opens old wounds for Abbi and shines a harsh light on how much Ben has changed since a devastating military tour. Their marriage teeters on the brink and now they must choose to reclaim what they once had or lose each other forever.

If you would like to read the first chapter of Watch Over Me, go HERE.

Enjoy!!

Book Review- Leaving Yesterday by Kathryn Cushman

This week, the

Christian Fiction Blog Alliance

is introducing

Leaving Yesterday

Bethany House (October 1, 2009)

by

Kathryn Cushman

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

I graduated from Samford University with a degree in pharmacy, but I’ve known all my life that I wanted to write a novel “some day”. For me, “some day” came about five years ago, when I started writing and never looked back.

My third attempt became my first published novel.

A Promise to Remember was a finalist for the American Christian Fiction Writers Book-of-the-Year in the Women’s Fiction category, and Waiting for Daybreak was a finalist in Women’s Fiction for the Inspirational Reader’s Choice Award. Leaving Yesterday just arrived on scene and I’m very excited about it!

On the homefront, I’ve been married to the wonderful and handsome Lee for over twenty years now, and our two daughters are currently braving the worlds of elementary and high school. We’ve lived in Santa Barbara for the last seventeen years. When I’m not writing or reading or braving seventy degree holidays, you’ll find me watching the younger daughter play softball, or the older daughter building amazing high school theater sets

ABOUT THE BOOK

Alisa Stewart feels like she's lost two sons: her youngest to a terrible tragedy and her eldest, Kurt, to a life ruined by addiction. But now Kurt has checked himself into rehab and found a healing faith that seems real. It's like he's been raised from the dead.

But then a detective arrives at Alisa's door asking questions about a murder--the death of a drug dealer before Kurt entered rehab. Alisa fears losing her son again, and when she finds evidence linking him to the killing, she destroys it. Her boy is different now. He's changed and deserves a second chance.

But when another man is charged with the crime, Alisa finds herself facing an impossible choice: be silent and keep her son or give up everything for the truth.

If you would like to read the first chapter of Leaving Yesterday, go HERE.

Enjoy!!

Book Review- Things Worth Remembering by Jackina Stark

This week, the

Christian Fiction Blog Alliance

is introducing

Things Worth Remembering

Bethany House (October 1, 2009)

by

Jackina Stark

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Jackina (pronounced with a long “i” to rhyme with China) Stark recently retired from teaching English at Ozark Christian College to spend more time writing and traveling.

Jackina says: "Although I loved my subjects and my students, I retired to do more writing and speaking, to spend more time with my family, and to travel with family and friends (including trips to encourage two missions in Cambodia). I have also spoken nationally and internationally at many retreats and seminars and enjoy running into many readers and former students. I have written frequently for both Christian Standard and Lookout, periodicals of Standard Publishing. Years ago I wrote two non-fiction books, published by College Press, but currently out of print. These days, I’m exploring fiction. My first novel, Tender Grace, was released by Bethany House January 30, 2009, and Things Worth Remembering, is the second. I’m working on new projects, including a third novel, as time permits. Whether speaking or writing, I love the opportunity to tell about Him whom Jesus called “Holy Father” and “the only true God.”

She has been married to her husband, Tony, for forty-two years. They live in Carl Junction, Missouri, and have two daughters and six grandchildren.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Kendy Laswell and her daughter, Maisey, used to do everything together--until one fateful summer when Maisey witnessed something she shouldn't have, and their relationship fractured. Now, Maisey is back home to get married and Kendy realizes this is her last chance to reconnect with her daughter. Will Kendy and Maisey be able to reclaim the bond they once shared?

Maisey asked for a bride doll the Christmas she was five, mesmerized by her aunt's wedding the fall before. Since then I've been dreaming of the day, or days, we would shop for her wedding dress. A mother helping her daughter find just the right creation for that momentous walk down the aisle strikes me as one of life's happiest endeavors. The night she called to tell us she'd bought her "dream of a gown," I sat beside Luke on the couch, a striking contrast to Maisey's exuberance.
My dejection seemed a tad inappropriate. "Being hurt because I wasn't included is silly, isn't it?" I asked.

"Not so silly," he said.

Will I ever quit longing for the Maisey who was once mine?

If you would like to read the first chapter of Things Worth Remembering , go HERE.

Enjoy!!

Book Review- A Measure of Mercy by Lauraine Snelling

This week, the

Christian Fiction Blog Alliance

is introducing

A Measure of Mercy

Bethany House (October 1, 2009)

by

Lauraine Snelling

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Award-winning and best selling author Lauraine Snelling began living her dream to be a writer with her first published book for young adult readers, Tragedy on the Toutle, in 1982. She has since continued writing more horse books for young girls, adding historical and contemporary fiction and nonfiction for adults and young readers to her repertoire. All told, she has up to sixty books published.

Shown in her contemporary romances and women’s fiction, a hallmark of Lauraine’s style is writing about real issues of forgiveness, loss, domestic violence, and cancer within a compelling story. Her work has been translated into Norwegian, Danish, and German, and she has won the Silver Angel Award for An Untamed Land and a Romance Writers of America Golden Heart for Song of Laughter.

As a most sought after speaker, Lauraine encourages others to find their gifts and live their lives with humor and joy. Her readers clamor for more books more often, and Lauraine would like to comply ... if only her paintbrushes and easel didn’t call quite so loudly.

Lauraine and her husband, Wayne, have two grown sons, and live in the Tehachapi Mountains with a cockatiel named Bidley, and a watchdog Basset named Chewy. They love to travel, most especially in their forty-foot motor coach, which they affectionately deem “a work in progress”.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Eighteen-year-old Astrid Bjorklund has always dreamed of becoming a doctor. She had intended to study medicine in Chicago or Grand Forks, but when a disaster wiped out a major portion of her family's income, Astrid stayed home instead, receiving hands-on training from Dr. Elizabeth.

Joshua Landsverk left Blessing two years ago, but he's never forgotten Astrid. Returning to town, he seeks to court her.

Astrid is attracted to him, and when the opportunity unexpectedly opens for her to go to Chicago for medical training, she finds it difficult to leave. Love blossoms through their letters, but upon arriving back home, she makes a heartbreaking discovery. She learns he's left town--again. Believing Joshua no longer loves her, Astrid makes an impetuous, heart-wrenching decision.

Will she regret the choice she's made? Now blessed with multiple writing contracts with Bethany House, Barbour, and Zondervan Publishing, Kim enjoys sharing her journey to publication as well as the miraculous story of her healing from a life-long burden of pain and shame.

Kim's gentle yet forthright testimony lends credence to the promise of Ps. 117:2--"Great is his love toward us, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever."

ABOUT THE BOOK

Will their Mennonite faith be shaken or strengthened by the journey to a new land?

With their eldest son nearly to the age when he will be drafted into military service, Reinhardt and Lillian Vogt decide to immigrate to America, the land of liberty, with their three sons and Reinhardt's adopted brother, Eli. But when tragedy strikes during the voyage, Lillian and Eli are forced into an agreement neither desires.

Determined to fulfill his obligation to Reinhardt, Eli plans to see Lillian and her sons safely settled on their Kansas homestead--and he's equally determined that the boys will be reared in the Mennonite faith. A select group of trusted friends back at dear old Mission High waited eagerly for the next installment of my "Great American Spy Novel" (think Man from Uncle) and my "All-American Teen Novel" (remember Gidget and Tammy?). I even had a private notebook of angst-ridden poetry a la Rod McKuen.

The dream of writing persisted into adulthood, although it often remained on the back burner while I attended to home and family and several "real" (read paying) jobs along the way. Then in 1983, while recovering from sinus surgery, I came upon one of those magazine ads for the Institute of Children’s Literature. I knew it was time to get serious, and the next thing I knew, I'd enrolled in the “Writing for Children and Teenagers” course.

Within a year or so I sold my first story, which appeared in the Christian publication Alive! for Young Teens. For many years I enjoyed success writing stories and articles for middle-graders and young adults. I even taught for ICL for 9 years.

Then my girls grew up, and there went my live-in inspiration. Time to switch gears. I began my first women's fiction manuscript and started attending Christian writers conferences. Eventually I learned about American Christian Romance Writers (which later became American Christian Fiction Writers) and couldn't wait to get involved. Friends in ACFW led me to RWA and the online inspirational chapter, Faith, Hope & Love.

So here I am today, still on this crazy roller-coaster ride. Still writing. Still hopeful. Writing, I'm learning, is not about the destination, it's about the journey. My current projects are primarily women's fiction and romance . . . novels of hope, love, and encouragement. Novels about real women living out their faith and finding love in the midst of everyday, and sometimes not so everyday, situations.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Graphic designer Natalie Pearce faces the most difficult Christmas of her life. For almost a year, her mother has lain in a nursing home, the victim of a massive stroke, and Natalie blames herself for not being there when it happened. Worse, she's allowed the monstrous load of guilt to drive a wedge between her and everyone she loves-most of all her husband Daniel. Her marriage is on the verge of dissolving, her prayer life is suffering, and she's one Christmas away from hitting rock bottom.

Junior-high basketball coach Daniel Pearce is at his wit's end. Nothing he's done has been able to break through the wall Natalie has erected between them. And their daughter Lissa's adolescent rebellion isn't helping matters. As Daniel's hope reaches its lowest ebb, he wonders if this Christmas will spell the end of his marriage and the loss of everything he holds dear.

If you would like to read the first chapter of One Imperfect Christmas, go HERE

Watch the trailer:

Book Review- Dawn's Prelude by Tracie Peterson

This week, the

Christian Fiction Blog Alliance

is introducing

Dawn's Prelude

(Bethany House - October 2009)

by

Tracie Peterson

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Tracie Peterson is the bestselling, award-winning author of more than 70 novels. My novels include the Katie Parker Production series and So Not Happening. I would also like to take credit for Twilight , but somewhere I think I read you’re not supposed to lie.

When I’m not typing my heart out (or checking email), I teach at a super-sized high school in Arkansas.

My students are constantly telling me how my teaching changes their lives and turned them away from drugs, gangs, and C-SPAN.

Okay, that’s not exactly true.

Since my current job leaves me with very little free time, I believe in spending my spare hours in meaningful, intellectual pursuits such as:

-watching E!
-updating my status on Facebook
-catching Will Ferrell on YouTube and
-writing my name in the dust on my furniture

I’d love to hear about you, so drop me a note. Or check me out on Facebook.

ABOUT THE BOOK

The only thing scarier than living on the edge is stepping off it.
Maggie Montgomery lives a life of adventure. Her job as a cinematographer takes her from one exotic locale to the next. When Maggie's not working, she loves to rappel off cliffs or go skydiving. Nothing frightens her.

Nothing, that is, except Ivy, Texas, where a family emergency pulls her back home to a town full of bad memories, painful secrets, and people Maggie left far behind . . . for a reason.

Forced to stay longer than she intended, Maggie finds her family a complete mess, including the niece her sister has abandoned. Ten-year-old Riley is struggling in school and out of control at home. The only person who can really handle the pint-sized troublemaker is Conner, the local vet and Ivy's most eligible bachelor. But Conner and Maggie keep butting heads--he's suspicious of her and, well, she doesn't rely on anyone but herself.

As Maggie humorously fumbles her way from one mishap to another, she realizes she's going to need to ask for help from the one person who scares her the most.

To save one little girl--and herself--can Maggie let go of her fears and just trust God?

If you would like to read the first chapter of Just Between You And Me, go HERE

Book Review- The Blue Enchantress by M.L. L. (MaryLu) Tyndall grew up on the beaches of South Florida loving the sea and the warm tropics. But despite the beauty around her, she always felt an ache in her soul--a longing for something more.

After college, she married and moved to California where she had two children and settled into a job at a local computer company. Although she had done everything the world expected, she was still miserable. She hated her job and her marriage was falling apart.

Still searching for purpose, adventure and true love, she spent her late twenties and early thirties doing all the things the world told her would make her happy, and after years, her children suffered, her second marriage suffered, and she was still miserable.

One day, she picked up her old Bible, dusted it off, and began to read. Somewhere in the middle, God opened her hardened heart to see that He was real, that He still loved her, and that He had a purpose for her life, if she'd only give her heart to Him completely.

She had written stories her whole life, but never had the confidence to try and get any of them published. But as God began to change her heart, He also showed her that writing had been His wonderful plan for her all along!

Her other current release in the Charles Towne Belles series includes The Red Siren.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Betrayed by the man she longed to marry, Hope Westcott is about to be auctioned off as a slave to the highest bidder on an island in the Caribbean . After enduring a difficult childhood in an unloving home, Hope?s search for love and self-worth have led her down a very dangerous path. All she ever wanted was to find true love and open an orphanage where she could raise children with all the love she never experienced as a child.? But how can a woman with a sordid past ever hope to run an orphanage, let alone attract the love of an honorable man?

Determined to overcome the shame of his mother?s past, Nathaniel Mason worked for many years to build his own fleet of merchant ships in an effort to finally acquire the respect of Charles Towne society. Ignoring the call of God on his life to become a preacher, he forges ahead with his plans for success at a distant port in the Caribbean , when he sees a young lady he knows from Charles Towne being sold as a slave. In an effort to save Hope, he is forced to sell one of his two ships, only to discover that her predicament was caused by her own bad behavior. Angry and determined to rid himself of her as soon as possible, Nathaniel embarks on a journey that will change the course of his life.

If you would like to read the first chapter of The Blue Enchantress, go HERE.

View The Book Trailer:

Book Review- Call of Zulina by Kay Marshall Strom

This week, the

Christian Fiction Blog Alliance

is introducing

Call Of Zulina

Abingdon Press (August 2009)

by

Kay Marshall Strom

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Of Kay Marshall Strom’s 34 published books, four have been book club selections, nine have been translated into foreign languages, and one has been optioned for a movie.

Her writing credits also include numerous magazine articles, short stories, two prize-winning screenplays, books and stories for children, and booklets for writers. Her writing has appeared in several volumes, including More Than Conquerors, Amazing Love, The NIV Couple's Devotional Bible and The NIV Women's Devotional Bible, and The Bible for Today's Christian Woman.

Her work also is included in a number of compilations, including various books from the Stories for the Heart series. She also has written several books with her husband, Dan Kline. Kay is a partner in Kline, Strom International, Inc., leaders in communication training. She currently lives in Eugene, Oregon.

As an activist against modern slavery, Kay Strom takes an indirect approach to calling attention to that issue with her newest fiction title, the first of three planned in the Grace in Africa series, set in West Africa in 1787.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Grace Winslow, the daughter of a mixed marriage between an English sea captain and an African princess, is swept up in a slave revolt after she escapes the family compound to avoid an odious betrothal.

As the truth about the fortress of Zulina unfolds, Grace begins to grasp the brutality and ferocity of the family─the capture and trade of slaves.

Despite being held for ransom, viciously maimed by a runaway slave, and threatened with death, Grace sympathizes with the plight of the captives. She is especially moved by the African Cabeto’s passion, determination, and willingness to sacrifice anything, including his own life, for his people’s freedom. Leaning on the faith of her nanny Mama Muco, Grace risks everything to follow her heart.

If you would like to read the first chapter of Call Of Zulina, go HERE.

Enjoy!!

Grapevine Studies Review!!

As part of the TOS Crew, I had the opportunity to review a wonderful Christian Bible Study curriculum, Grapevine Studies. I was thrilled with this review partly because my children really enjoy learning about the Bible and about the life of Jesus.

Grapevine Studies is a complete Biblical curriculum created to instruct and disciple students from as young as 5 years old through adulthood. With just a set of colored pencils, a Bible, and the Grapevine lessons, students of all ages will learn and grow in their Christian walk.

The scope of Grapevine Studies lessons cover many topics and are divided into levels based on the student's age and ability. Here are the levels available:

Beginners (Ages 5-7)- Beginner students will enjoy this hands-on study of the major characters and events of the Bible using simple, colorful stick figures, and symbols. Teachers will appreciate the chronological and easy-to-teach format!

Level 1 (Grades 1-2)- Level 1 students will begin to learn the Old or New Testament Timeline, with each subsequent lesson related to a point on the timeline. Teachers will see measurable results in just a few lessons.

Level 2 (Grades 3-4)- Level 2 students will expand their knowledge of the Bible timeline while learning new facts about each timeline character and event. Memory work includes the books of the Bible, the Ten Commandments, the Apostles Creed and more!

Level 3 (Grades 5-8)- Level 3 students will deepen their understanding of the Old or New Testament characters and events. Students should be able to complete either the Old or New Testament Timeline on their own. In addition, students will be introduced to basic biblical geography, so they will not only know what happened, but where it happened!

Level 4 (Teen-Adult)- Level 4 students will master the old or New testament Timeline and know were the books of the Bible fit into the chronology of the Timeline. Students will also be introduced to and practice using basic Bible study tools: Bible Concordance, Bible Dictionary, and Topical Bible with each lesson. Students will also be challenged with critical thinking question associated with each lesson.

Level 5 (Teen-Adult)- Take a self-directed approach to studying the Old or New Testament. students will take notes, use Bible study resources, and answer critical thinking questions in each lesson. Hands-on activities and research projects make this an excellent study for students who desire to deepen their understanding of the Bible. No teacher manuals needed.

We had the opportunity to try out the Birth of Jesus Beginner study from Grapevine Studies. My first impression of the study was great!! The teachers guide was very easy to understand and follow- allowing for the lesson to be catered to any age group. The beginner study for kids was also so simple to apply, however just the right pace for my little ones.

My daughter is a budding artist and was thrilled to see the "stick figure" aspect of each lesson. Her stick figures were a bit more developed than those in the teacher guide, complete with eyelashes and fingernails, but the lesson behind the figures were imprinted firmly in her mind.

My son has a very hard time focusing for an extended period of time, but even he was intrigued by the lessons and was able to recite many of the things he learned in the lessons even days later- a huge step for him.

We also received the customizable lesson that would work for all age groups and although we weren't able to really try this one out, I did notice that the questions were much more in depth and thought provoking. The included time line is also another great tool that will be great to use with my kiddos when they get just a bit older.

I was extremely impressed with Grapevine Studies and I know it will be one tool for Bible learning that we use for years to come.

To Buy:

Grapevine Studies multiple Bible Lessons can be purchased exclusively on their website. Use the code: crew9 for 30% off your purchase through September 30.

Don't forget to check out more great reviews by the TOS Crew.

Web Design for Kids (and Curious Grownups) Review!

Web Design for Kids (...And Curious Grown-ups!) is a great program for introducing the basics of HTML to children. With the growth in blogging and home-based businesses, especially in the homeschooling world- these are vital skills for today's students.

Brian Richardson, a middle school computer literacy teacher, developed the Web Design for Kids program to capture the attention of his students and teach them a skill that will give them opportunities throughout their lives. The reaction of his classes was tremendous with many of his students creating their own web pages. His desire to share this valuable program with students all over the world led him to create the Web Design for Kids DVD.

This DVD makes learning fun with Mr. Richardson's upbeat and cheerful demeanor and his two wonderful student assistants. His passion for teaching comes through as he walks students step-by-step through creating the basics of an original webpage. Plus, there is no additional software to purchase. The programs used on the DVD are all included free with every Windows Operating System.

The DVD is approximately 1 hour and 22 minutes long and consists of seven chapters. Two preteen kids are on the DVD to keep you company and learn along with you! They actually ask a bunch of questions that (after 7+ years of teaching kids web design) I know will pop up in your child's mind!

Some of the subjects covered in the DVD are:
*The 10 Basic Lines of Code
*Coloring the Background and Letters
*Making Letters Move Across the Screen
*Designer Backgrounds
*Changing Fonts
*Adding Pictures

There is also a Bonus Chapter on File and Folder Management. Basic things like how to create a folder, how to save things inside the folder, what to do if you accidentally save something in the wrong place, and much more!

Although my pre-reader children were not able to try out this DVD (yet!!), I was so glad to watch and learn from Mr. Richardson myself. I have been fairly fluent in HTML for a while, but I was surprised to learn from the DVD as well. I love that Mr. Richardson tags "and curious grownups" to the end of his DVD title. The paper was an unexpected inheritance from a close colleague, and Lois must keep it for at least a year, bringing a host of challenges, lessons, and blessings into her life.

When Lois pulls into Green on New Year’s Day, she expects a charming little town full of smiling people. She quickly realizes her mistake. After settling into a loaned house out on Route 2, she finds herself battling town prejudices and inner doubts and making friends with the most surprising people: troubled teenager Katy, good-looking catfish farmer Chris, wise and feisty Aunt Helen, and a female African-American physician named Kevin.

Whether fighting a greedy, deceitful politician or rescuing a dog she fears, Lois notices the headlines in her life have definitely improved. She learns how to provide small-town news in a big-hearted way and realizes that life is full of newsworthy moments. When she encounters racial prejudice and financial corruption, Lois also discovers more about the goodness of real people and the importance of being part of a community.

While secretly preparing the paper for a sale, Lois begins to realize that God might indeed have a plan for her life and that perhaps the allure of city life and career ambition are not what she wants after all.

If you would like to read the first chapter of Gone To Green, go HERE.

Enjoy!!

iKookie Review and Giveaway!!

ikookie is creator of some wonderful organic clothing for infants and toddlers. Mr. Richardson wanted to create a story that could be enjoyed by the entire family. He understood the need for these stories to be funny, entertaining and have a good basic lesson in order to allow everyone to enjoy them. Thus, Hank the Cowdog was born. From his first story, written over 26 years ago to his newest adventure today, Hank has been winning the hearts of fans of all ages.

I had the opportunity to experience Hank the Cowdog for myself with his story of The Case of the One-Eyed Killer Stud Horse, the wonderful Tales and Tunes from Hank the Cowdog CD and Tornado- the wildest Race and Chase Game Ever!!

Hank the Cowdog was an instant hit in our family. The Tornado Game started our adventures with Hank and we were hooked from the start. From the great compact size to the adorable game pieces, Tornado is our new family game night choice.

Aside from the fun of chasing Hank, Drover and the little buzzard pieces all over the game board, Tornado is great because it is travel friendly with all the pieces fitting nicely inside the board. It's a great distraction for little one's while waiting at the doctor office or in a meeting. It's quiet (except for the excited murmers from the little one's playing it) and easy to understand with no difficult directions or long explainations needed.

It's a race to be the first to get your three "characters" from the start to the finish. But watch out, your opponent is chasing you and may send you back to the start. And landing on a tornado space can send you flying in any direction! The only safe place is a finish space. And in this fast paced game it's truly, never over until it's over!

You can even take the TORNADO game with you on the road! Everything can be stored inside the folding plastic game board!

Hear "Drover's Tornado Safety Song." Drover's funny song is included on your free 30 minute cassette tape from Hank's award winning audio, The Case of the Swirling Killer Tornado.

Includes:

1 plastic playing board

12 "characters"

tornado spinner

instructions

For 2-4 players/ Ages 5+

My little guy fell in love with Hank from the beginning- even asking if I could get him "Hank" for his birthday this Sunday. He thoroughly enjoyed the Tales and Tunes from Hank the Cowdog CD and has listened to it over and over. The different character voices John Erickson uses in his audio recordings truly bring the stories to life.

The CD contains excerpts from 10 different Hank stories as well as 9 original songs. The "little taste" of each story makes you wonder what trouble is in store for Hank next.

We also very much enjoyed blending Hank the Cowdog's book #8 , The Case of the One-Eyed Killer Stud Horse into daily reading schedule. Our nightly chapter readings were full of laughter as Hank got himself into one predicament after another. From poisoned bacon grease, to girls cousins, to Tuerto, one mean horse- Hank never gives up and always manages to come out on top.

From the back cover:

Things are looking pretty bleak for Hank the Cowdog. First he gets sick on poisoned bacon grease. Then he accidentally trips Sally May-and she ends up with a broken ankle. And if that’s not bad enough, he gets stuck playing dress-up with Amy and Ashley, Little Alfred’s cousins.

But when Turto the Killer Stud Horse breaks free and charges at the girls, Hank knows it’s up to him to protect them. He’ll show that one-eyed horse who’s boss-even if it means risking his own life!

I am so glad we were introduced to Hank, Drover and all their friends. The stories are hilarious and I have thoroughly enjoyed reading them to my little ones. We can't wait to see what trouble Hank gets into next!!

To Buy:

Hank the Cowdog products can be purchased on their website.

They are currently available at the following prices:

Tornado Game- $12.99
Tales and Tunes CD- $3.00
Hank the Cowdog Books- Paperback- $4.24/ Hardback- $12.49

Check out some other great reviews from the TOS Crew.

Sleepy Bear Review

I was recently given the opportunity with Parent Reviewers to review a great new product from Sleepy Wrap- creator of organic and fabulous babywearing apparel. They have an amazing selection of the sweetest baby wraps I have ever seen.

Sleepy Bear is one of the fabulous products created by Sleepy Wrap and it is the very first stuffed toy that was created to promote babywearing. I was thrilled when I was chosen to review this product as I have always been a huge babywearing advocate.

From the Sleepy Wrap website:

NAP, Inc. introduces the very first stuffed toy to help promote babywearing! Made from the softest organic cotton, the new eco-friendly toy is perfect for your child's first friend (intended for children ages 3 and up). No buttons, snaps or removable parts are used on the Sleepy Bear – only soft stitching and materials are used to make this the perfect bear for your child!

Produced in accordance with the requirements of the Organic Exchange 100 Standard, the Sleepy Bear contains no pesticides, herbicides, insecticides, chemical fertilizers or any other chemicals – we are dedicated to providing only the best for you and your family.

My Experience:

When the package arrived in the mail I couldn't wait to see Sleepy Bear for myself. Once I opened the box I was amazed at how soft and sweet this little bear feels. Sleepy Bear is just the most adorable stuffed toy complete with an Organic Khaki wrap (available for adults as well) and a little bear cub of her very own.

My daughter fell in love immediately. She has often created baby wraps for her baby dolls out of blanket and playsilks we have around the house, but now she has a friend with a "real" baby wrap! How exciting! Sleepy Bear is 100% Organic and has no removable parts that could be potential choking hazards. That makes Sleepy Bear a great toy for all children- and a great way to introduce babywearing to curious little ones.

Many children want to imitate Mommies, especially after a new baby has arrived and this is a great opportunity to allow young children to be able to understand and learn about the experience of babywearing. I would recommend Sleepy Bear for anyone who want to promote or explain babywearing to little ones!

To Buy:

Sleepy Bear can be purchased at the following locations:

Supermommy’s Superstore
2411 Ring Road, Suite 105
Elizabethtown, KY
accounts@supermommyssuperstore.com
www.SupermommysSuperstore.com
270.769.6693

Sweet Infant
1007 S. The product I have to share with you today is one of my favorite products thus far. The Quarter Mile Math program was created as a way for children to advance in mathematics whether schooling at home or in the public system.

The Quarter Mile Math program allows students of all ages and grade levels to complete mental math problems at the fastest rate possible. The student begins by choosing to race either a riderless horse or a car. When the race begins, a student is provided a math problem, as soon as the student answers correctly another problem appears. Correct answers accelerate speed of the car or horse that is racing in real time. The racer is competing against the previous five fastest times the student has performed. This allows the student (and parents) to see their progress race after race.

There are two versions of the Quarter Mile Math program- to suit the needs of every student.

The Standard Version is available on CD with prices ranging from $39.95 to $89.95 depending on the grade range. There are 7 different programs to choose from covering different grade ranges.

The Deluxe Version is available for the low price of only $2.95 for the entire family per month. It offers all 323 topics in the entire product line and all 70,000+ problems covering Kindergarten through 9th grade (pre-algebra). It also provides for additional student progress tracking features.

Check out the complete comparison of these two versions.

My children love playing on the computer so asking them to try out this great program was easy. From the beginning I knew this would be a new favorite in our house. Both of my children thoroughly enjoyed playing both the horse races and the car races although my little guy was hooked on the cars when he started.

It was great to be able to watch their progress as they began on the first topic and quickly moved up. They really liked being able to compete against themselves (their 5 fastest previous scores) and even if they lost the race, they didn't feel bad.

They both made great progress much quicker than I had first thought. My son has some special needs and I often wonder how new programs and curriculum items are going to work for him. This was a home run!! He loves math and this only increased his confidence and abilities. I know we will be using Quarter Mile Math as a supplement to our regular curriculum for years.

The Quarter Mile Math program is used in all 1,300 Sylvan learning centers across the US.

There are many, many testimonials by families and teachers who have used the Quarter Mile Math program for years and have seen amazing progress in their students.

Just for Homeschoolers!! There is now a great Just For Homeschoolers section of the Quarter Mile Math website with great tips, information, and suggestions for incorporating the program into your current homeschool curriculum. Coming soon there will be a User's Forum for even more great ideas and support. There is even a great Printable Progress Chart to help track your students achievements.

To Buy:

You can purchase any of the Quarter Mile Math programs on their website.
