Homeschool Favorites- Math Mammoth Review and Giveaway

We have a fabulous product to share with you on our very first Homeschool Favorites- Product of the Week post. Math Mammoth is a wonderful homeschool resource comprised of mathematic workbooks which are a wonderful, very inexpensive tool for teaching math to children. The workbooks are all presented in a really clear manner and a logical sequence of learning.

Math Mammoth offers much more than just worksheets for students. Their products are broken down into colors and offered in many different styles of learning.

The Blue Series offers workbooks suitable for children in grades 1-5 which focus on specific topics such as Addition, Subtraction, and Place Value. They also cover more difficult topics such as Clocks, Measuring, Money (even European Money), Geometry, Fractions, and Decimals. These subjects are presented in easy to follow worksheets that include instruction as well as exercises in the same book. This is a great addition to any math curriculum or can be used as a stand alone math curriculum with great flexibility for the teacher.

The Light Blue Series is a complete curriculum for grades 1-4. Each complete grade level consists of two worktexts (A and B), their answer keys, tests, and an additional worksheet maker.

The Golden Series are worktext that focuses on grades 3-8 and contain 120-150 sheets per grade. Topics covered in this series include: Multiplication, Word Problems, Metric System, Factors vs. Multiples, and a strong emphasis in Algebra.

The Green Series is comprised of worksheets which are each topic specific and contain very variable problems that not only practice computation but also check for conceptual understanding, and include word problems. Each book in the Green series spans several grade levels on the same general topic, typically for grades 3-7.

The Workbooks in each series are available as separate worktext or as part of a package. All of which are very reasonably priced from $2-$5 per downloadable worktext to around $60 for a complete curriculum package. These books can also be ordered as printed text- visit the website for more information.

Our Experience:

We were given the Blue Series Package to try out and we were so excited when we received the CD in the mail. The Blue Series contains so much information and so many different approaches to teaching each subject.

Once I put the CD in the computer, I was a bit disconcerted by the array of choices in the Blue Series Package. I quickly found the List of All Lessons in the Math Mammoth Blue Series books sheets and was put to ease. This list included each and every lesson available on the CD and where I could find them.

I chose to go easy as my kiddos are in Pre-K and K/1st Grade and neither have had much success with math in the past. The Addition 1 book was perfect for us. My son began with the Two Groups and a Total page and was not finished until we reached the Addition Practice sheet six pages later. He quickly grabbed onto the information and was easily able to apply it on each sheet.

My daughter was a bit more hesitant, staying on the first page for the entire time. I do believe she understood the information but she was a bit more interested in coloring the dots than on doing any actual adding (she is only in Pre-K though so this is understandable).

The one thing I really enjoyed is how easy it is to teach. I am NOT a math whiz by any estimation and teaching math to my children has been one area in which I am just not comfortable. I believe that with this program I will be successful in teaching them all the components of mathematics they need through middle school.

Overall we are very impressed with Math Mammoth and I know it will be a welcome addition to our current homeschooling curriculum.

We give Math Mammoth a very happy
